What’s Actually Trending on Social Right Now (and Why Your UGC Should Be in the Middle of It)

October 2026 did not come to play. Open TikTok or Instagram Reels and the whole feed is in costume, mid-argument, or confessing something at full volume before the first second is even over.

Short-form video is still the format that wins. HubSpot’s 2026 social data puts it on top for TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, and TikTok’s engagement rate is being carried almost entirely by those little vertical clips. If your brand is still posting static graphics and hoping for the best, the algorithm is already looking past you.

Halloween is the loudest room in the house – it lands on a Saturday, so costume content gets a whole weekend to peak. And that content train has already left the station.

The Ramalama Costume Walk — low angle, creepy walk, zoom-out reveal, set to Róisín Murphy’s “Ramalama (Bang Bang)” — is the one brands can actually borrow.

Pumpkin Head Illusion, “Did I win this trend?” costume cuts, #spookyseason, #octobermood and #31daysofhalloween are all peaking.

Beauty, fashion, food, home, hospitality: if you sell anything people can hold, wear or walk into, a creator-led Halloween reveal is free distribution dressed up as culture.

Audio is doing the heavy lifting. Taylor Swift’s “Patient Zero” from The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore is sitting under wedding-day edits and first-listen arguments. “Two Fishes” – that calm Love Island USA monologue about not putting one back, is the sound people use when they want to defend a take nobody asked for. Ingrid Michaelson’s “Be OK” is the happy-dance-over-chaos format. You do not need the official track on every ad. You need the shape of the trend: a reveal, a defence, a little chaos with a punchline.

Formats worth stealing this week, not next month:

  • Yes… but. Split screen. Top is the thing you want. Bottom is the catch. Painfully relatable, and it works for products the second you show the glow-up and the fine print.
  • Gold star behaviour. Tiny habits that deserve a sticker. Perfect for routine, skincare, coffee, apps, anything people already do every day.
  • “Look…” Two-person panic flip. One fear, then the real fear. Brands can flip a problem into the thing that fixes it.
  • Premise-first talking-head UGC. No “hey guys.” Open on the opinion, the conflict, or the result. Talking-head selfie UGC is still one of the highest like-per-view formats on TikTok right now, ahead of a lot of polished brand spots.

That last one is the whole game. UGC is still the content people trust. Reviews, unboxings, try-ons, demos, everyday-use clips. Shoppers use it to decide. Non-branded and creator-style videos keep outperforming the stuff that looks like an ad, which is exactly why smart brands stopped treating creator content like a side quest.

A few rules if you want the trend without the cringe. Post the costume and the fall aesthetic before mid-October if you want the hashtag, not the graveyard. Lead with the hook in the first line of the caption and the first frame of the video. Use micro and mid-tier creators – they still convert better than a celebrity who has never touched the product. Keep a business-safe audio lane (quiet fall instrumentals, original sound, voiceover) so you are not married to a licensed track that disappears from ads. And test the same idea three ways: organic UGC, a Spark Ad or Partnership Ad, then a cut-down for Stories. One hero, three jobs.

This is also why creative fatigue shows up so fast in Q4. Everyone is running the same pumpkin. The brands that win are the ones shipping fresh social media video content every week. New hooks, new creators, same offer and letting the data kill the losers. Paid social without a content engine is just expensive scrolling.

Favoured already lives in this lane. Performance creative, UGC through to high-end production, paid social across Meta and TikTok, influencer that actually matches the audience.

So if your feed is quiet while everyone else is doing costume reveals and premise-first UGC, that is not a vibe problem. That is a production problem. Chat to us if you want to boost your UGC and social media video content. Hooks that stop the scroll, creators who sound like people, and paid social built to turn the trend into revenue before the sound dies.
