Introduction

Up Learn is a UK online learning platform for A-level and GCSE students. Its courses cover the sciences, maths, psychology and economics, combining short video lessons, exam-style questions and round-the-clock tutor support, all mapped to the UK exam boards.

Students begin with a free trial before moving to a paid subscription, and the courses carry a grade guarantee for students who complete them.

Challenges

Up Learn appointed us in spring 2026 to run paid social on Meta and TikTok in the run-up to the summer exams and the September peak. The account needed a steady supply of new creative that spoke to two audiences, students and their parents, across both A-level and the newer GCSE courses, and that kept pace with the school year.

Creative Approach

From April 2026, we focused on:

  1. Two Audiences, Two Levels:
We wrote separate scripts and statics for students and for parents, and cut the main video concepts in A-level and GCSE versions, so the newer GCSE courses had creative of their own from the start.

  2. Creator UGC at Volume:
We scripted each brief and produced it with UGC creators, from short meme-format clips to longer study-desk walkthroughs of the platform. Most video briefs came back as five cuts or more, often with different creators and opening lines, so they could be tested against each other.

  3. Routes Timed to the School Year:
The creative followed the calendar: exam-urgency ads in April, summer-course statics and parent UGC through May to July, results-day films in August and September, and mock-exam statics in October.

  4. Statics and Motion Alongside:
Static routes covered student and parent messages, bold headlines and USPs, an Up Learn versus AI comparison and testimonials, and an animated emoji series gave each course its own motion ad. A shared sign-off tracker logged every brief, amend and approval.

Between April and October 2026, the programme gave Up Learn a steady flow of new creative for paid social:

  • Over 80 Video Ads: We delivered 86 approved video ads from 14 video briefs, ranging from six-second meme-format creator clips to a 50-second results-day film.
  • 25 Concepts Signed Off: The shared sign-off tracker records 25 creative concepts approved to go live, across creator UGC, static ads and animation.
  • Students and Parents, A-Level and GCSE: The main concepts were produced in student and parent versions, and in A-level and GCSE versions, so each audience and course level had creative written for it.
  • Seven Courses in Motion: The animated emoji series covered biology, chemistry, physics, maths, psychology, economics and GCSE combined science, each in 4:5 and 9:16.
  • Results Day on Film: We edited Up Learn’s own results-day footage of students and a teacher into social films for the autumn, followed by shorter supercut edits in October.

Conclusion

Up Learn now has a library of creative organised by audience, course level and the moments of the school year, from exam season to results day and mocks. Each new round builds on the routes already approved, so the team can keep bringing fresh angles to students and parents through the year.

This project drew on our video and motion design and paid social services. See more of our work.
